Tai Chi Chuan in an ancient martial art that can be traced back hundreds of years to Chen Village where, for a long time, the teachings were secret and only taught to members of the Chen Family.

In the 1800’s, Chen Chang-Xing taught art to the first outsider, Yang Lu-Chan. Yang Lu-Chan was responsible for developing the Yang style of Tai Chi and was called Yang the Invincible.

Tai Chi Chuan was originally developed as a martial art but over the years has also been found to have many healing properties such as aiding in cardiovascular health, flexibility, and balance. It has also been known to help with high blood pressure, stress, arthritis, multiple sclerosis, and respiratory ailments. The slow-paced low impact workout helps build strength in the legs and core muscles, as well as the stabilizing muscles.

The martial applications of the styles are taught through an exercise called Push Hands. Push Hands trains the student by improving the understanding of forces, balance, intentions and Qi involved in practice with a partner.

Tai Chi instructor / Personal Trainer

I have not always been a fitness professional in fact; I was the geek and joined the army to help me with college. I reached a low point after leaving the Army Reserve while working as a mover and injuring my back, I hit 300 pounds. Physical therapy and trying on my own was not helping, so that is when I sought help. Through my doctor, I went to a dietitian who helped me develop a nutrition plan that gave me a better knowledge of how to eat. Between that and joining a gym with my wife, we were able to lose weight and get into better shape. However, something was still missing and I kept reaching a plateau or backsliding. Finally, my Taiji Sifu had us do an Insanity Fit test. My wife convinced me to try it and this led me to my passion in life. I started helping others with their journey and decided to further my education first by becoming certified in Insanity Live, then Certified as a NASM Personal Trainer, and then took additional certifications in MMA Conditioning, Performance Enhancement, Group Training, Fitness Nutrition, Corrective Exercise, PiYo, and Certified Tai Chi instructor. Martial arts has been a driving force in my life and to me education is the key to continuing my journey and helping others with their journeys.
