Reasons to Consider a Trainer

Reasons to Consider a Trainer

Whether it is your first time working out, or you’ve been training for years, there are many reasons why you should consider working with a personal trainer. But first you have to select a trainer who is the right fit for you. Please remember this is someone whom you will spend a lot of time with. So it’s important to invest some time and research in selecting a trainer by asking questions, and confirming they are certified and insured. That being said, here are a few reasons to consider working with a trainer…

First, working with a trainer is a great learning experience. You will have the opportunity to learn about different exercises, nutrition, and the best ways to reach your goals. You will gain knowledge of proper form to prevent possible injury, and you will learn about how training can help you achieve your aspirations. There is so much you could learn.

Next, some of us have special requirements due to illness or injury. Working with a trainer helps protect you from further injury by using proper exercise modifications. With the trainer you can work through physical limitations to still reach fitness goals.

Goal setting is a large part of your fitness journey, and for some unrealistic goals lead to quitting. Working with a trainer can help you set obtainable short term and long term goals. This will help keep you on track without becoming frustrated.

Now let’s look at training for specific events. Maybe you want to run a 5 or 10k and improve your time. The best results come from more than merely running, but by using the proper training to support your running goals. This is why semi pro & pro athletes rely on trainers, and train with exercises other than playing their sport. Professional athletes use trainers to boost their performance. Proper performance can be improved speed, more strength, greater endurance, or improved balance and flexibility.

One of the best reasons I hear from clients is that a trainer helps hold you accountable to your goals. Sure, we all slip up, but a good trainer will help pick you back up and continue.

Finally, training is not only a matter of physical fitness, but also mental fitness. A good trainer doesn’t just show you how to exercise, but is also someone you can talk to. Yes, physical fitness helps with elevating mood, but sometimes you just need to talk, and good trainers can act as an unofficial therapist.
