Self-Care

Self-Care

Self-care is about building healthy habits, setting routines, and breaking down unhealthy elements of our lives so we can discard them or change them into healthier elements. So, it’s no surprise that fitness would be a key element to any good self-care routine.

For many of us, fitness is not a go-to to make us feel better. If anything, it’s a chore we do because we’re just trying to survive. So, what can you do if fitness isn’t for you?

One of the major parts of self-care is “re-framing”. Given how much of our daily lives are spent connected, overstimulated, and always on the go, the need for balance – physically and mentally – is important. So, if fitness isn’t for you, then consider re-framing what you think fitness and going to the gym is.

Do you consider fitness to be a bunch of beefy guys walking around like an early 1980’s Arnold Schwarzenegger? Do you think going to the gym means smelling stale protein shakes and sweat? Maybe it’s the thought of being forced to do uncomfortable exercises until you sweat?

The truth is, going to the gym and participating in fitness can be as easy as taking the time to stretch your body with some yoga, doing some tai chi, or even just take a leisurely walk can activate your brain to release endorphins, serotonin, and dopamine – the holy trinity of happy chemicals.

When you take something you dislike and re-frame it, it helps you see it from a new prospective. You might realize that working up a sweat with some weight training or cardio can help you emulate a popular anime or superhero character you like, it might show you that fitness can mean taking a group class, it could even be finding a personal trainer that has a motivation style that matches your needs, or it could mean taking a larger interest in body intensive activities like hiking or climbing to get your full body workout.

When you find what appeals to you most, and you start doing that fitness program on a scheduled routine, you find that the good feelings you get from your workout come faster and last longer.

We’d love to help you on your self-care journey! If you are curious what your fitness style is, and want to get more information on how you can start feeling better, then visit us at questfitnessgym.com to schedule your fitness consultation and evaluation with a NASM certified trainer today.
